The rancid and self-immolating atmosphere within collegiate athletics is now undeniable, and frankly is threatening to destroy athletics. Nothing kills a team faster than rancor within the locker room. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/college-football-coach-all-lives-matter-jesus-quit At Illinois State, the situation has already hit critical mass, causing the offensive coordinator to abruptly leave the team. Kurt Beathard had a BLM poster placed on his office door, likely by one of the players. This was done soon after other players went on public record criticizing the school's president, after the president said, "All Redbird lives matter." The team name of Illinois State is the Redbirds. Beathard's final communication to the team as offensive coordinator was a note that he placed on his door after he took the BLM poster down. The note read, "All Lives Matter to Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ." The team initially has chosen to avoid any comment on why their coach left the team, but the team did put out a previous statement that someone took down a BLM poster in the team's locker room. In response to that statement, Beathard told the media, "That locker room crap is wrong. I took the sign down that somebody put on my door. That's it. I didn't take anything off that wasn't put on my door. I wrote the message." I have watched a few ACC games, and so far I have noted that only one ACC team has decided to make an overt reference to the political group BLM. Sadly, that team is the NC State football team, who has affixed to their jerseys a patch that uses the BLM logo, which is a clinched fist raised up. BLM is a group that until very recently, posted on their official website, their desire to break apart the nuclear family, and pursue a strategy of Marxism in the United States. Only a fool choses to associate with an organization without first determining the values of said organization.

I felt Hockman earned the start from his performance last week but no way he should have started the 2nd half and I probably more like the 2nd quarter. Granted a lot was not his fault but it was clear that his throwing was off and we were in a hole and needed a spark to have any chance. Midway through the 3rd quarter was way too late.

No doubt there, but that angers me also, because he was that ready to go before the game started, and with him starting, perhaps this game turns out entirely differently. By the time the coaches pulled their heads out of their asses, the game was way out of hand, and we had to run a one-dimensional offense, which made Leary's performance all that much more impressive. If it's so plainly obvious to us as observers, then it should have been vastly more obvious to the coaching staff. Ken

Only bright spots: Leary did show he was the better QB last night coming in and going 12-16 for 165 yards in only a quarter and a half. Doubled the passing yards of Hockman. He showed he can make plays that Hockman cannot. Knight, Person Jr, and Houston combined for 179 yards (94 from Knight) but when you add in the 4 sacks only a net gain of 137 yards. Still an impressive night by those 3 considering they were running behind an Oline that was getting the hell beat out of them. Dunn remains impressive and nailed a 53 yard FG last night. Funny how just a few years ago we had a solid team and our kickers kept killing us. Now we have a great kicker and the rest of team is killing us. It is going to be hard to win games this season getting manhandled on both sides of the LOS like we did last night and having a secondary that cannot cover. It is a shame because we have some very good RBs, receivers, and from what I saw of Leary last night, a skilled QB that could be very productive with a little blocking. Also still thank we have very good LBs and especially when Wilson is playing but hard for them to do their jobs when the DL is blocked into them and the secondary cannot cover or tackle in open space.

Frankly, I don't care how "ready" Devin Leary is or isn't. He needs to start the next game and that's the story of it. Hockman never had a good arm, and he missed multiple open receivers in the Virginia Tech game, but it's his decision making that's been the worst part of it. Starting down intended receivers has caused two interceptions, allowing the corner to jump the receivers' routes. One led to a pick six in the Wake Forest opener, and about all I can say for Hockman is that he did have the manhood to make an open field tackle to prevent his second pick-six in two games. But, giving up that much field position just let the Hokies score soon after. Even the ESPN announcers said they were surprised that Hockman continued to play the game. This is the second year in a row that we have squandered game opportunities by refusing to play Leary, and it's getting old and it's entirely on the coaching staff. Being able to practice is crucial, but so it overall talent. Hockman doesn't have it, and at this point, he never will. Sorry, but the truth is the truth, whether it hurts or not. Perhaps with Hockman on the bench, he can work with our secondary and inspire them to show a desire to make tackles against running backs, something it doesn't appear like they're too terribly interested in doing right now. You touched on a point that angered me the most. Throughout the three quarters of this game I watched, I saw a number of cases when players, especially in the secondary, looked like they wanted to avoid contact, vice make a tackle. You can't coach that. A player has to possess the drive to excel. To have a good pass rush and run defense, we stacked eight in the box. It worked for a few series, until the Hokies had even their third string QB start heaving the ball to receivers who frankly wanted the football a lot more than any of our cornerbacks appeared to want it. This team is soft, and that's a term I've never used to describe a Wolfpack football team. Ken

Frankly, pretty bad! Virginia Tech is ranked #20, but we didn't really play that Hokie team. When a team has 23 players off the active roster, then you have an opportunity to steal a huge road win. Those 23 players included their starting quarterback. Yet, we got mauled in the first quarter and looked woeful on both sides of the football. Finally, in the second quarter, the offense at least looked competent, but the defense was still getting beat more often than it was winning. Our secondary play is horrible, and that just continues the same problem we've suffered from the last several years. Any college quarterback with an accurate and strong arm is going to have a field day against this defense. As it was, the success we ultimately had against the Hokie run was obtained by forcing the cornerbacks to play man-on-man, and that's why even their third string quarterback, who's not known for his passing ability, was able to enjoy a very successful night throwing the football. Honestly, I turned the game off in the third quarter and went to bed. Ken

Hokies is down 23 players due to Covid and down to their 3rd string QB and killing us. Defense is absolutely horrible. Terrible tackling, pursuit angles, and pass coverage. Seen little league defenses with better fundamentals.

Down 17-0 in the 1rst 8 minutes and have only run 5 offensive plays. D-line is getting manhandled for the 2nd straight week.

Wow! Seven whole percent, in a football stadium! I have no idea how folks will maintain six feet of separation that way! Just don't know how those 4,000 people can be fit into Carter-Finley without rubbing elbows! Ken

Well our gracious governor has announced that he will allow 7% capacity at outdoor venues. That means 4000 fans can pack the stadium for our next home game against Duke. The parents of the players for both teams would be about 10% of that. That would leave about 3600 tickets available. How much do the Dukies get? I would imagine what is left only major Pack donors would get the rest. Probably all sitting in the Vaughn Towers socially distancing I am sure. Say if I do score a ticket and being that I do not have a paid parking pass at the PNC lot anymore would I have to park at one of the businesses near Cardinal Gibbons (they usually charge 20.00 bucks a pop and really a decent place to tailgate) and walk a mile to the stadium past several thousand empty parking places?? If so would I be able to tailgate even though tailgating is not allowed since I am not in a "Venue" parking place?? I am sure I will not be able to get one of those tickets but thinking about going to one of those lots before the Duke game and tailgating for the hell of it.

And with our current Governor mandates there is very little home field advantage. Basically we go on the road for 3 weeks to 25% capacity hostile fans and then home against Duke to no fans except a handful of parents and had to petition the governor just to allow the parents in the games.

A hard fought home win against a team that might end up having one of the worst records of this conference only season. As it is, I think it only gets more challenging from here on, and we play an un-Godly number of road games -- four out of the next five. If we stand at .500 after the next five games, I'll regard it as nothing less than a modern miracle. The hire of our new OC was a huge improvement. Hockman's performance was a revelation based on his performance last season. Wake Forest has a good offense, but it's not national best, and this game was more of a who scores last wins game. That said, the defense did make the late stops that meant the ultimate difference in the game. We'll be a better team this year than last, but that's not saying a whole lot! Ken

Great Win!!!! Positives: Hockman did well at QB. Don't ***** up the season by having another QB battle. Hockman is the man although I feel was outclassed tonight but he is a winner and what we need as a team. Lets get behind him! Love the RB corps!!!! Person, Houston and Van!!!! 270 yards combined against a very good D!!!! Tim Beck. Play calling is the best I have seen in years!

Tied at the half. Wake's O-line is starting to control this game like they have done for the past 3 years. Impressed with Hockman and the running game but the D has to step up. If they don't this game will be a "L".

Have not really been away. Just have not been much to talk about since the Pack was pulled off the floor in March in preparation to face the Dukies in the ACC tourney. Well, a hell a lot to talk about but I try to veer from politics in this forum. Politics is the reason why I am completely done with professional sports. Still wish all the former Pack in the pros the best of luck but still done!!! All is not lost for college however. Still have a weekly tailgating plan for just about every weekend this fall even though I cannot be at the stadiums and a big F$%% YU** to Governor Cooper (sorry really trying to not get political). Tailgated this past weekend at the house with good friends and good food and beverages before the APP vs UNCC game. That kind of carried on until the Wake vs Clemson game later that evening (we had plenty of beverages). This weekend I will be on the beach tailgating for the Pack vs Wake game before heading up to the house to view the game on TV. Actually plan to tailgate at the beach a lot before Pack games this fall because I can and did I mention F%*k Y&(&!!! Governor Cooper!! Go Pack!!!!!

Looking forward to this season getting started but really depressing not even the parents of players are allowed in games in NC. Don't get the science behind that. 400 parents cannot socially distnce in a 60,000 seat stadium? Most states are allowing I believe up to 25% capacity at college games.
