After watching his performance in the National Title game, I cannot believe that Alabama would let him go. But, then again, this is the same Nick Saban who benched Hurts in that game and who's team needed a late miracle to avoid their second consecutive loss in the championship game. Hurts wasn't the reason for few points scored in the first half. Georgia just shut down Alabama's running game. Ken

Yes, several areas are still underwater. The damage is horrible and many areas are still without power and they are not projected to get power back until next week at the earliest.

Blast from the past with Maryland Eastern Shore. But, 4 power 5 games before January. That's not mailing it in. Decent schedule. Win 3 of those 4 and I like our chances for a good year. If we're not 6-0 going into the Wisky game, we've got problems. Those 6 must all be 200+ RPI.

From what I heard, this is worse flooding than Floyd, and Floyd was extremely bad. The storm stalled out over the coast and dumped most of its energy onto eastern North Carolina. The flooding is far more significant an impact than the winds. Ken

Reading this thread is giving me a feeling of deja vu. I think with each storm, the water levels are getting worse causing more flooding than the previous storm. Many roads are still closed and may areas are still without power.

Both teams' first three weeks mirror each other. Marshall beat Miami-OH and Eastern Kentucky. The Miami-OH was a 35-28 road win. Both teams had their week three games cancelled by Hurricane Florence. The Herds' game was at South Carolina. It is a Saturday night game, 19:00 eastern and broadcast on CBS Sports Net. Ken

Our bye week is between 6 and 20 Nov. West Virginia's is between 13-25 Nov, one week later. So, unfortunately, our bye weeks do not mesh up, which would have made for an easy remake date for this game. If I had to guess, I don't think this game will be made up this season. Everyone in the area, please make the safe choices and hope for the best.

Unisys produces one of the best forecast models and I just checked their website's ten day forecast. For what it's worth, it is showing the hurricane stalling out immediately east of Cape Hatteras, and making landfall onto North Carolina's northeast corner on Saturday morning with outer bands. The eye does not hit until Monday morning. This is terrible news for everyone living along the northern North Carolina coastline, as this means 48 hours of sustained hurricane force winds and rain! Any other website, and I would chalk it up to bad modeling, but Unisys is used in the aviation community and is considered well developed. http://weather.unisys.com/forecasts On a far less serious level, it means that perhaps the Saturday game could be played, but the thing is do you really want to schedule a football game with a hurricane hovering just a few hundred miles east? I'm thinking that's a huge risk to invite that many people to travel when the highways are going to be in huge demand to support evacuations. Ken

Worse. Florence could make landfall as a Cat 4 storm and could go inland as a Cat 2-3 storm near Raleigh. Hell, I live in WNC and we could get TS force winds. This is depending on several factors tho. Donít think the game will be played. JMO.

From watching and listening to the games, my biggest concern is the run game also. Everything thing else is about or better than expected given the number of starters lost from last year. If the run game doesn't turn, this could be a long year.

    1) I disagree about our defense, they are much better than I thought they would be. We seem to be a much better tackling team then we were last year. We have played very conservative, not showing any real blitz packages or anything. And we held a read option team to 7 points. That is a great sign that your players made the tackles and are playing good, solid, fundamental football. 2) I am concerned about the line and the run blocking. While Both JMU and GSU stacked the box, we are not controlling the LOS like we should. We are being conservative, I agree, but that is simply man up time for the OL and we have not really done it to this point. On the flip side, the pass blocking is on point. 3) Some of the running issues is the RB. With Hynes, the smallest crease and he was gone. Reggie does not have that ability. The blocks need to be sustained longer and the holes need to be bigger for him. I think the younger backs have that ability that Hines had, but they are young and green. That will improve through the season.

The TV broadcast kept mentioning the suspensions. However, the UNC loyalist I have spoken with think they should have beaten ECU, even without the suspensions. Or at the very least been competitive. As stated, this is not a very good ECU team.

Usually a new head coach gets a pass the 1rst season but this is FSU. And this being a night that they are memorializing Burt Reynolds? A loss to Samford would not settle well with that fan base.

This UNC team is currently dysfunctional. Some of that are the huge number of suspensions that came from the latest cheating scandal. But, I also think this team is poorly coached. It is hard to say how good a team is in the beginning of a season. One thing that is beyond obvious is that UNC has likely the best field goal kicker in the ACC this year. And one wonders how often his talent will even matter this season. Ken

After suffering a humiliating program defining home opening loss to the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University last week ECU defeats UNC 41-19. I listened to the tarholes radio network the 2nd half of this game and counted at least 10 times that Jones Angel or his counterpart mentioned that ECU lost to NCA&T last week (yes 2nd half alone) and at least 3 times they mentioned "this is not a very good ECU team" LOL!!!!!!!!. This made my day and I don't even like ECU.

Take away Bodine's 50 yards at trash time and we only had 65 yards rushing. Got to do better than that or it is gonna get difficult for Finley against quality opponents because play action will not be respected. Cannot put it all on the O-line. Yes they have to get better at holding their blocks as Ken mentioned above but they were getting movement and t-ing off and that is something we can work with. I saw mostly young backs not attacking the LOS and being aware of where their blocking was. Ironically aside from Gallaspy, Bodine is our most experienced back and showed it by running smart and cutting back against an over pursuing defense. Dude looked good on the TD run. Maybe he is our man lol!

Georgia State is an interesting program. They only started football in 2010 as an FCS team. But, they are a major university located in downtown Atlanta. The issue for them is that they are an urban university, but that all changed when the Braves moved to their new digs in northwest Atlanta (Sun Trust Park). That vacated Turner Field, which has been converted into a football stadium for Georgia State. Last year they finished at 7-5. Their game at Memphis was cancelled and never made up. So, they entered their bowl game with a 6-5 record and beat Western Kentucky 27-17 in the Autonation Cure Bowl. The interesting part of this game today is that the Panthers scored the first points of the game and then saw the Pack reel off 41 unanswered to close the game! Our defense isn't as good as I thought it might have been, but there is still time to get better and I think they will. The same can be said for our offensive line, which again seems able to pass protect well, but the timing of the run blocks isn't there. A number of times in this game, I saw the line blow back the defensive front, but the play developed so slowly that by the time the running back reached the line of scrimmage, the defense was able to recover. Other times, we did not blow up the holes. The passing game is strong. We have one of the best receiver corps in the college game to go with one of the best quarterbacks playing. The question of course against a quality opponent like West Virginia is whether we can develop a more balanced offense than we have shown so far.

Not a good start to the Taggart era. All we heard from FSU was uptempo offense and a blitzing defense. VT plays great defense under Bud Foster, but there is no way that FSU with all that talent should have only put 3 points on the board.
