I will say that it is sounding like Walker will forgo his Sr. season and turn pro and start playing overseas. This news will likely break today or tomorrow.

He wants honest feedback from the NBA about where he would stack in the upcoming draft, and is prepared to make a rational choice based on that feedback. Since he's been doing everything above board and rational so far, I think you are correct that he will try to preserve his options until he is able to make an informed choice. Ken

Yea after losing only 3 games in 2 months we lose 4 in a week. Today we loss our first weekend series of the season. Most concerning is we gave up 28 runs in 2 games today. That is as much as we gave up the first 12 games this season. Baseball is a strange sport that is all about consistencies. Mid-season slumps are not uncommon for even the best teams. We are officially in a slump and I hope we pull out of it and win that 30th game tomorrow. But dang Louisville shelled the hell out of us today. 28 runs?????

Our philosophy is not that different than UNC. UNC basically out scores you and they dont have issues winning titles. This year our scoring defense ranked 175th, UNC's ranked 223rd. Dont be a prisoner of the moment here. UVA was extremely lucky as well as being good. UVa trailed in 3 straight games w/ under a minute to play. They could have easily lost any of those 3 games.

If you get 20 points on 15 turnovers, is that not emblematic of good defense? If you restrict an opponent to 40% shooting with them having 80 attempts -- giving up 64 points, isn't that better defense than restricting an opponent to 45% shooting on 60 attempts, giving up 54 points? Defense isn't merely how many points you give up. This is especially true if you end up with more possessions due to those 15 turnovers, when your team only has 10 turnovers. Ken

The point is that the corps of experienced college coaches were mainly men at the time they were hired, which is why both of these women are hall of famers and legendary in coaching circles. They pioneered a trail for other women to follow. However, at that time, if you wanted to hire the most qualified candidate for a head coaching position, the odds were heavy that you would have to hire a man. The good news is that has changed as women have gained the experience and their numbers in coaching have increased accordingly. We cannot go back and amend the near dominance of men in the basketball game when it was first invented and developed into a college and then professional sport. But, the initial cadre of men hired were the ones who prepared women to not only be outstanding players, but outstanding coaching candidates. But, that takes time. The WNBA was only founded in the spring of 1996, just over 20 years ago. This was concurrent with women's college basketball finally hitting its stride in being a revenue generating sport and enjoying the full range of support. Remember back when Kay Yow was hired. It was considered highly controversial at the time since she had very little experience as a high school teacher who also coached the women's high school basketball team. Willis Casey took a lot of heat when he hired Yow in 1975. It should also be remembered that Yow was NC State's first women's basketball head coach. This all followed the same pattern of the hire of Everrett Case, who was a high school basketball coach. Yet, both reached the hall of fame and yet both were highly controversial hires at the time. It should be added that Yow formed the program and Case inherited a very weak program. Finally, nowhere did I write saying that women coached college basketball only recently. I wrote that Title IX only recently expanded those opportunities. Remember, you can only hire coaches for whom you receive the budget to hire! Ken

BTP did a break-up of Keatts UNCW teams, before coming here. His defenses there were around 175 nationally. He's going to give up points in the half court for attempting steals. From what I gather, Keatts philosophy is to get more possessions than your opponent via turnovers and rebounding. I doubt we will ever be a great defensive team under Keatts.

We had 4 transfers last year: Batts, Bey, Steere, and SKJ. We have two real vulnerabilities for departures (1) a player decides to do what Maverick Rowan did and play somewhere on the planet for money, and (2) recruiting class decides not to join, like Bey last year or do something like Steere this past year. Otherwise Harris, Bryce, Funderburke, and Daniels probably aren't transferring, as they all sat one year already transferring to NCSU. Walker and Beverly get enough minutes, I doubt they go anywhere. Bates is coming off missing last year due to injury, so I doubt he wants to transfer and miss another year.

I am not sure what your point is that women were not coaching in women's college basketball until recently. Pat Summitt and Kay Yow were both hired in 1974. I am sure they were not the only women coaches hired 45 years ago, when NCAA women's basketball was starting out.

The you better get us this year is exactly what I heard. We are stacked, but young. The primary players for this years team will be younger but talented. You will see flashes and the you will see the inexperience. I still think 7 to 8 wins is doable for this year, but this team is building for 2020-2021. Those two years will be something to behold if we can stay healthy.

Defense and offense are not isolated from each other, but integral. A team that wins 100-80 is better than one that wins 60-55. Nor is it true that the teams averaging 55 points allowed is better defensively. Likely instead that ball control minimized possessions, while the team averaging 100 points is scoring so quickly that it gives the opponent more possessions. That’s the problem with those rankings. Our defense focuses on press turnovers and fast break scoring chances. Breaking down zone defenses accentuates that method, and yet we did not have consistency from the perimeter to break down zone defenses. Ken

Lsmirh, word is the coaches are quietly optimistic about the upcoming season. It will be a rebuilding year of sorts (given the players drafted in the NFL recently what would you expect!), however, State should still make a bowl. But the coaches did say if this was a year that you wanted to get State, take it! Because, after next year State will be loaded and ready to compete for the top spot in the ACC, no joke. Look what the coaches have recruited the last two cycles. They deserve a lot of credit and praise for the phenomenal job on the recruiting trail.

Long ago, I chose to live my life with a philosophy that vigorously defends meritocracy, devoid of racism and sexism. Frankly, it’s easy to do, and deserves no special notice when done. The sad truth is that such a philosophy is almost alien in our society today only because so many peddle the falsehood of victimization culture. This is a threadbare fig leaf, trying in vain to mask the evils of people who favor or disfavor people due to their race, gender, or other entirely unimportant considerations. Notre Dame head coach Muffet McGraw was asked last week by a reporter at a press conference if she “would ever hire another male coach on her staff.” Barely was the question uttered before McGraw replied, “Never!” Nearly the entire media universe praised McGraw for her social justice warrior stance. Despite significant search, as of this weekend, I could only find one writer of an obscure online publication who called McGraw out for blatant sexism. Well, this website will join that minority chorus! For all the media subterfuge and fawning cheerleading, McGraw is nothing more than Al Campanis at a younger age and with longer hair! Campanis had the media destroy his career, and forced MLB to engage in major league damage control after the Dodgers executive tried to justify why so few blacks had been hired to front office baseball jobs.

I completely disagree. Our offense is fine. Our scoring offense was ranked #30 in the country. Yes, we played some really bad teams in December. But we also played 4 games against #1 seeds and a 5th against the SEC champ. So it kinda evens out. Our scoring defense was ranked #175. Look at who's in the finals. #1 and #3 defense. We don't need more offense. We need to get real serious about how bad our defense is.

This is an intriguing situation. He was the best player on our team all season. But, I don't know that he will receive feedback that he will be in the first round of the NBA draft, and as we know, everyone drafted in round two are really little more than free agents on rental contracts, devoid of much if any security for the player. This is the right move for him to make. I just don't think he's going to receive the feedback that he will be on the round one radar. Ken

The QB competition is down to 3, Matt, Devin, and Bailey. These three are getting reps with the 1st and 2nd team. If I had to bet $$$, Matt will be the starter against ECU but Devin will defiantly get snaps. Devin has the best arm talent on the team IMO and when it all clicks for him it will be special.

This is actually a process I can respect. Someone decides openly and up front what he wants his future to be. I really wish the age was lowered to 18 but if the player chooses college, then he's eligible for the NBA draft after completing his junior season. Right now, the process puts the control in the hands of the agents because the NBA is not required to put their cards on the table. The NBA can easily move their draft earlier to April, and so my process would say they can actually draft high school grads. But, if that player instead chooses college, then you lose that draft slot -- so choose wisely! What we cannot have are examples like Dennis Smith, who decided with his family to go semi-pro -- taking money for play while enrolled in college! Ken

This was an anticipated move by Lecgue. It is not 100% certain he is draft eligible due to the fact that the CBA states you also have to be removed one year from High School. So even though Lecque is 19 he does not officially graduate till this year. The question mark is that he was eligible to graduate in 2018 and decided to reclassify to 2019. So even though he could have graduated in 2018 he did not, so will the NBA approve the waver? Most likely, but not certain. Then its where will be be drafted? This is a strong draft class so as Ken said, it will depend on the feedback he receives.

Jalen Lecque has applied to the NBA for inclusion in this summer’s NBA draft. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26422764/nc-state-recruit-lecque-explores-nba-eligibility Lecque is said to have a solid basis, since he met academic qualification standards for college entry last year, but decided to spend a fifth year in high school. He is 19 years old, and therefore meets the agreed upon collective bargaining minimum age requirement for inclusion in the NBA draft. The issue comes down to the feedback the NBA gives him about his draft stock. Lecque is ranked 76th in ESPN’s Hot 100 survey. NBA scouts indicate that Lecque needs to improve his perimeter shooting before he is seen as a legitimate NBA player. His LOI with NC State remains in effect and it is believed he will enroll at NC State if he doesn’t like the feedback the NBA gives him. He has until May to make a final decision.
