Going to have to play significantly better defense, and someone other than Markell is going to have to make more than 1 shot. By the numbers, Lipscomb is much better than Harvard.

Pack makes it to the elite 8 of the NIT hosting Lipscomb in Reynolds. Two common opponents are Louisville and Clemson. Lipscomb lost by 4 to Louisville in December and we lost by 10 to them in late January. Lipscomb got manhandled at Clemson by 17 in late December. We won twice over Clemson both in dramatic fashion. Lipscomb is a good team with a record of 27-7 and beat #1 seed UNCG by 17 to advance to the 3rd round of the NIT. Gonna need some Reynolds "MOJO" to beat them and earn a trip to MSG.

Yea we got snubbed. We deserved to be in the dance. We should have been in. I agree 100% the NCAA lied about using the NET and in the end it was all about distributing the money to the conferences. Regardless I am much happier about winning 2 post season games and in the final eight for a banner than to lose in the 1rst round of the dance like we did last season. You go into tournament to win it. I firmly believe this team, although should have been a NCAA tournament team, had very little chance to go beyond 2 rounds with the way we were playing and our talent level. What I want for this program is not sweating selection Sunday. In the 10 times that we have made the dance since 1989 at least 6 or 7 of those we were wandering if we would make the dance at all. Duke never sweats if they are going to be in. Their sweat is if they are going to be a #1 seed and most years that is no sweat. Of course they always have 4 or 5 of the top 10 recruits in their line up every season. The "holes" never sweat about being in the dance. Yea they usually have 4 or 5 "burger boys" every season. This season they have, well, Luke Maye. Yea I know Luke will probably be the leading scorer in the Charlotte area YMCA league after he graduates from UNC but he kicked our ass the past couple of seasons. The point I am making is lets make the most of where we are (the NIT) and build our program. We have some good young talent and some very good talent coming in. To get where we want to get as a program (not sweating selection Sunday) we need better talent. This current team has worked their ass off this season. They deserve better than the NIT but that is what we have to play for. Like I said in my last post, I am all in!! Go Pack!!

With the 11 or 12 seed we earned, I doubt we would have made the NCAA Sweet 16 field either. But, we deserved to be in the field, and we played two good opponents in the NIT and so I do think a message has been sent, which I hope continues to be sent. Ken

So far, here is how the postseason ACC teams have fared: 1. Virginia -- advanced to Sweet 16 2. UNC -- advanced to Sweet 16 3. Duke -- barely advanced to Sweet 16, winning their second game by just one point over UCF. 4. Florida State -- advanced to Sweet 16 5. Virginia Tech -- advanced to Sweet 16, and will face Duke in that game. 6. Syracuse -- bounced in their opening game by Baylor. 7. Louisville -- bounced in their opening game by Minnesota 8. NC State -- advanced to third round of NIT.

Those on the committee who snubbed NC State knew what they were doing. So, they don't care even if NC State wins this whole thing. However, everyone else is paying attention. We won these two games even with Braxton Beverly continuing to struggle mightily from the perimeter. He was a deadly sharpshooter last year and for the first half of this year, but then his shot got erratic. I hope the Wolfpack wins this tournament because in the long run, a strong message needs to be sent. Especially when the ACC is heads and shoulders stronger than any other conference in college basketball, teams that finish with over 20 wins and a conference record of .500 deserve to be in the Dance! Every one of the four objective measures that the NCAA promised would be used validated that point, and validated it strongly. The committee had to go completely outside those measures and find something else to justify their decision. The chairman of that committee had his marching orders from the PAC-12 to get another at large bid. And to cover their tracks they put Clemson and NC State not even in the first four out. The team's performance is proving all of this in a manner that any objective thinking person can see! Ken

We get another game in Reynolds where so much history has been made and from all I have heard even more electrifying in the new 5500 seat configuration. A chance to win a banner which is something we have not seen since the mid 1980s even if it is the NIT. I am all in!

Two common opponents are Mercer and UNC. They beat Mercer by 4 and we beat Mercer by 4 in a game I feel Keatts was experimenting with different line-ups and calling off the pressure to work on our half court game. As Derreck mentioned they loss to the holes by 20 and we loss by 8 and 17 to them. In basketball it is a lot harder to go by common opponents like football. In basketball it is all about match-ups and I don't know that much about Harvard other than they are well coached by Amaker and I can promise you they are smart.

The time may come when NC State loses a baseball series, but it won't be this weekend! The Pack withstands a determined ninth inning comeback attempt by the Hurricanes and defeats Miami 7-6 to clinch the series. The Pack can go for the series sweep Sunday afternoon. https://hurricanesports.com/sidearmstats/baseball/summary #1 NC State went down 1-0 after the first inning but stormed back to tally three in the top of the fourth on the strength of an Evan Edwards three run blast. Will Wilson added a solo homer as the Pack went to the bottom of the ninth leading 7-2. The Hurricanes plated four runs and recorded their final out with the potential tying run at the plate. With the win, NC State improves to an incredible 22-1.

Everett Case designed Reynolds Coliseum to be a very loud place. It also has the fans on top of the players. It can truly inspire the home team and intimidate the visiting team. I saw it happen both ways many times in my time at school. Even with the seats reduced by 30%, it seems the place can still do all that. Ken

As I have seen other mention, traditionally teams expected to be in the NCAAT and end up in the NIT often to not play well and get eliminated. Its a tall task for Keatts to have the guys focused and ready to play tonight. Hopefully they come out with a chip on their shoulder and take care of business.

Outstanding posts, LSmith! Look, if the NCAA had the stones to tell the Power 5 conferences back in August of 2018 that they would continue to use the RPI, then I would accept us being outside the Dance. But, the NCAA didnít have the guts to tell the truth because it risked a revolt of the major conferences to form their own tournament. Purely to chase the money, the number of Division 1 basketball teams exploded. What does a fair system look like to me? You stack all the automatic bid teams seeded as their NET would indicate. Then, the 34 at large teams are selected in strict order with the NET rankings among those teams not in with automatic bids. Everyone would know the criteria, make their schedules accordingly, and know their fate before the announcements are formally made.

The other thing I have been pissed about today is the trashing of Debbie Yow in mostly social media but some main stream media on her defending us and expressing her disappointment in the way the selection committee handled things as far as excluding the NET. That is part of her job as an AD is to go to bat for us and she has always done that, right or wrong, and I believe she is completely right in this. I will admit that I have not always been a big fan of Yow (more a fan the past few years than when she started) but she has always gone to bat for the Pack and stuck her neck out in every controversy. As a female AD she has more balls than most male ADs and that is what I like about her.

Yea and basically not even being one of the 1rst 4 out means we were pre-determined that our resume' would not be considered. Their minds were made up based on distribution of funds to conferences to make everybody as happy as possible. In the real world when a qualified resume' (qualified based on the NET the NCAA said they would use) is not considered it can be construed as discrimination. David Glenn said it best today even if he did not mean to say it that way but he said a small fish (like UNCG) better have at least one quality win and they did not. A big fish (like NC State in a power 5) better have more than 1 quality win (Auburn) to get into the dance. That is a double standard. I am ok with auto bids from every conference. After that the "at large" bids should be the best teams left in college basketball. The selection committee fails every season at this and especially this season.

What really hurt us was Auburn and Oregon. We may have beaten Auburn but they won their conference tournament and took it out of the committee's hands. Same thing with Oregon. I think we got in last year because we beat Arizona, Duke and Carolina. Had we done something similar to that this year, we might be in the big tourney right now. In any case, we are in the NIT and there is only one thing to do. Take all the anger and frustration all the way to MSG and win the whole thing.

NIT rule modifications The NIT continues to experiment with rules in its tournament. Some changes in the NIT have eventually seeped its way into the mainstream of college basketball, such as the 30-second shot clock and four-foot restricted-area arc. The NCAA playing rules process operates on two-year cycles, rule changes can be approved this May, and could be in effect for next season. There will be four rule modifications for the 2019 tournament: -The 3-point line will be extended by approximately 1 foot, 8 inches to the same distance used by FIBA for international competition (22 feet, 1.75 inches). -The free throw lane will be widened from 12 feet to 16 feet, consistent with the width used by the NBA. -The shot clock will reset to 20 seconds after an offensive rebound instead of the full 30 seconds.

Just thought this quote from the NCAA Committee Chairman Bernard Muir would provide insight into what those people really did behind their closed door: Muir also remarked how they rated a team like Belmont higher because they finished 2-2 against quad one teams, while in response to Debbie Yow's concerns, he noted that NC State went 3-9 against quad one teams. Now, in what universe is 2-2 better than 3-9? OK, if that doesn't seem a rational question, then ponder this one ... How many nationally ranked teams did Belmont play in 2018-19? The answer is zero! NC State beat Auburn, who was nationally ranked then and is nationally ranked today. NC State traveled to Wisconsin when it was nationally ranked and played a very tight game. NC State played three of the number one seeds in the NCAA Tournament. Yes, lost all of those five games, but played Duke tough and took Virginia to overtime in their first meeting. Yet, Belmont is seen as a better team in this idiot's eyes because they played four teams barely in the quad one, and split those four games!
