In the most shocking development in NCAA history, the 2020 basketball tournaments (men and women) are cancelled. In addition, the ACC has suspended all sports operations, including practices, games, and even recruiting events.

There's very little going on in collegiate athletics for obvious reasons. So, about all that's left are post-season awards. NC State's wrestling team swept this years' award, earning Coach of Year, Freshman of the Year and Wrestler of the Year. https://gopack.com/news/2020/3/31/-packwrestle-sweeps-acc-wrestling-season-honors.aspx Add in the undefeated season, with its obvious conference regular season title, and the conference tournament title, the only disappointment was being unable to compete in the national tournament, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Coach Pat Popolizio has quite simply built a juggernaut in Raleigh. And the ACC is the best wrestling hot spot on the national level, placing four teams in the top ten, more than any other conference in the nation. For NC State, they earned a number three national ranking in the end of year poll. Ken

This sounds hard to believe, but in the entire history of NC State women's basketball, no player had earned higher than an honorable mention to an All-American roster! Well, that is past, as Elissa Cunane was named to the third team All-American roster! https://gopack.com/news/2020/3/19/womens-basketball-elissa-cunane-gains-ap-third-team-all-american-status.aspx Even better news is that she earned this in her sophomore season! So, there are two more seasons to come! Ken

Kind of ironic. Phillip Rivers will supplant Jacoby Brissette as the starting quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts. Rivers signed a one-year, $25 million contract with the Colts. Most people expect Rivers to have a much better season than he had in his finale with the Chargers. The Chargers last year had perhaps the worst offensive line in the NFL and they gave Rivers very little time to pass. The Colts have a far better talent level on their line. Ken

Well, let's just look at it this way. We all just took a massive time warp back to the era before national tournaments, where the final year's rankings is what you finished! At least the ladies did get to earn a very nice conference title banner and that hardware. And, in the course of history, they will come to realize how much that means to their collegiate legacy -- and it means a heck of a lot! Personally, given all this, they should just award the NCAA Championship trophies based on the final year's polling. it's about as fair an option as any. Ken

Dick Sheridan was elected to the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame in the 2020 class! https://gopack.com/news/2020/3/11/dick-sheridan-named-to-2020-college-football-hall-of-fame-class.aspx No less an authority than the late Furman Bisher wrote that Sheridan could "walk on water!" And that's plenty good reason to elect him to the hall of fame! Other equally good reasons are that he won 69.4% of all the games he coached in 15 years of being head coach. This saw him turn Furman into a DII powerhouse, and come to NC State and turnaround a moribund program into one of national relevance. Sheridan also earned two national coach of the year, honors at both Furman and NC State. Despite now being elected to the national hall of fame, and having previously been named to Furmans' and to the South Carolina Sports Hall of Fame, he has not yet been elected to the NC State Hall of Fame. Seems that he and Rollie Gieger now share that distinction of being enshrined in their respective sports' national halls before being elected to the one for NC State! It's past time those two glaring oversights get rectified real soon! Ken

It is well true that this, our website, is a humble existence, but that should not prevent us from laying out the facts. This is what I have learned from reviewing scientific medical websites just today. These are the facts regarding COVID-19: 1. Worldwide, excluding the unreliable areas of China and Iran, which have both done a pitiful job of initial medical response, the death toll is about 2,000 over three months of disease. 2. People who are under age 50, and in good initial health before contracting COVID-19, will have a recovery rate of about 99.8%. The normal influenza virus has a recovery rate in the same population of about 99.9%. About 85% of the people in this category who contract COVID-19 will experience two weeks of mild to no symptoms, and will require nothing but the normal bed rest people enact when they contract the flu. It is absolutely wise for anyone who suspects they have contracted COVID-19 to self-quarantine at their homes. The key thing is that at anytime someone suspects their symptoms are migrating toward respiratory issues consistent with pneumonia, that they immediately seek emergency medical care so that any actual pneumonia can be treated early. Those in this age group who do die will most likely do so because they developed pneumonia, and delayed treatment. 3. Children contracting COVID-19 are essentially 100% likely to recover from it. This makes COVID-19 entirely unlike the H1N1 (Swine Flu) which was more deadly to children than to adults.

So sorry your careers came to a end like this. You all deserved better. Thank you for your hard work and commitment to Wolfpack basketball. Pat and Danny chose to play their final year of eligibility with the Pack with Pat struggling through an injury this season. CJ you were in the dance lighting it up and almost beating 1 seed UVA in the 1rst round just 3 years ago and decided to follow your mentor hear to NC State in which you contributed greatly. Sorry you did not make the dance again and really thought our chances looked good after beating Pitt the 1rst round yesterday. Markell you are quite frankly one of the best athletes I have ever seen wear a Pack uniform. You put the team on your shoulders many times over the past 4 years. This was a season where we were very thin to begin with and then we had to fight through injuries and you all fought hard. Whether we would have beat Duke today or not or whether it would have been the Dance or the NIT you deserved to have your Senior season extended beyond today. Like I told my son when he found out he would have to miss his senior year HS football because of injury, you cannot choose the cards you are dealt in life but only how you play them. I hope for you 4 to play your cards wisely and and wish you the best of luck in whatever careers you choose going forward. Thank you for your contribution to NC State basketball!

It's pretty much across the board that all public functions are now being cancelled. This is being more or less directed by the CDC, though officially, the CDC by law can only "advise." For the next several weeks, everyone will go to work, and come home. For businesses like the one I'm in, food distribution, it will cut into our business levels. I urge everyone to avoid panic. Truth is, if you are not over 70 years of age, and in overall health, then your odds of having a two week flu experience and fully recovering is about 99.5%, perhaps higher, which is the equivalent of a severe flu season. The H1N1 and Ebola outbreaks saw far higher death rates, and that's the truth. But, we never saw anything like this in terms of public reaction. I still think this is gross overreaction, but the impetus is already set and it's all about the outcome now.

Just about all sports at all levels have been officially shut down and the ones who are suffering, the kids who participate, are the least likely to be effected by this virus. This is a sad day.

People are being put into a full scale panic by the media. This is what happens when 80% of the media is controlled by a handful of people with a proven desire to shape society, vice just report facts. So, they are trying to turn this virus into the second coming of the Black Death plague that killed a quarter of all Europeans hundreds of years ago. Except, the truth is about 98% of the people who contract this Coronavirus fully recover from it. Those who die are in small groups of people, those who don't get proper treatment, those who are elderly, or those with pre-existing respiratory ailments. So far in the United States just over 1,000 proven cases exist and yet only about 16 people have died -- do the math! And those are the facts! "For the love of money is the root of all sorts of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through many sorrows." -- 1 Timothy 6:10 What the media instead is doing is feverishly (literally) reporting the numbers of people worldwide who have died. What they are avoiding telling you are the worldwide numbers of people who die every year on average from the seasonal flu, which is vastly more. I favor temporary travel bans from countries that failed to control this viral outbreak, primarily China. But, these more recent steps just are not medically indicated.

Now the rest of the tournament is closed to fans WTF???? The tourney finally comes back to Greensboro where most Big 4 fans can attend (and I was offered tickets to the Duke game tomorrow) and they are closing the GD doors to the coliseum???? This is unprecedented in the life time of any one on this forum as far as sports and really anything else! In 1941 they moved the Rose Bowl to Wallace Wade in Durham after the Jap attack on Pearl Harbor because of the threat of the Japs attacking the West coast. Understandable. After 911 they canceled several college football games the next Saturday and canceled 1 week of the NFL. Understandable. Nearly 3000 Americans lost their lives in both the Pearl Harbor and 911 attacks!!!. Correct me if I am wrong but the latest info I am reading not 1 American has lost their lives to this virus. Over 1000 have been infected but almost with all the virus runs its course and everybody recovers and no longer contagious. World wide the death told has been about 4300 out of 7 billion people with about all deaths from people over 80 with compromised immune systems. What the hell is happening??? I kind of joked about the NCAA tourney not allowing fans in but this hits too close to home. I got sent to the principle's office for listening to the ACC tourney while hiding a walk man radio with ear plugs under my jacket in Jr high school almost 40 years ago!!! This is crap!!!! Just is the sports industry alone billions upon billions of dollars will be lost the next month!!!!

In terms of the other teams, Duke was of course in the double bye and will face us in their opening tournament game. The other top four seeds are Louisville, Virginia, and Florida State. In the other games today, Notre Dame beat BC 80-58, Clemson beat Miami 69-64, and the UNC versus Syracuse game is about to tip off. The brackets have us facing #4 seed Duke, Clemson taking on top seed Florida State, Notre Dame against #2 seed Virgina, and the winner of UNC/Syracuse facing # 3 seed Louisville. Kind of interesting how FSU got hot at the end to take the regular season crown in the conference. One final point, if Syracuse defeats UNC, then the quarterfinals will feature all of the top eight seeded team in the tournament -- everything will have gone to script.

Very happy that LSmith beat me to the punch! I love the full assistance of everyone! Here is the write up on the game: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=401211588 For me, I think this win should put us in the Dance, but last year at this exact time, I thought our round two victory over Clemson should have done the trick, and so did most the bracket analysts at the time. In short, last year we were snubbed. I don't think it's going to happen again. But, I base that statement on fairness, and I find myself forced more and more to admit that fairness is a character trait in rarer supply today! There should be five ACC teams in the tournament this year, and NC State should now be that fifth team.

Sorry, but there is no other way to describe what is going on. The nation is being plunged into a panic by a conspiratorial media perfectly at ease with trading temporary increases in ratings and subscription money in return for panicking the economy into a downturn, which also seems to fit their political objective. The Swine Flu (H1N1) virus epidemic did nothing like this. Yet, it was far worse than what this viral issue is causing. Folks, we have to wake up to and go on the offensive against these very selfish people. It is pied piper time, and frankly, I don't feel like following the sound! Ken

Itís because money has not yet interfered with the ability of collegiate coaches to teach the game. The women stay in school and learn how to play. Their relative lack of athleticism and power makes it an under the rim version of the game, but like tennis, itís become a more entertaining version to watch. The perimeter shooting skills separates the menís game from the womenís game. Look at the stats for the ACC title game. Both teams shot over 40% from the three line, with NC State shooting 43.5%. When was the last time youíve seen a menís team shoot even 35% from the three line? The women box out better on rebounds, play a better balanced defense in the paint and perimeter, and are starting to develop better low post moves. To me, it looks like where the menís collegiate game was in the 1970ís through 80ís, minus the dunks. I donít think either the collegiate nor pro menís games are as good as they were then. And you can blame the quick money for that. Ken

Left way too many ducks on the pond (runners on bases) to seriously challenge today. Last year we went 19-0 before our 1rst loss to FSU in a series win before the season went kind of towards the shitter. This year it was 12 games undefeated until our 1rst loss to UVA in a series defeat. Strangely I have higher hopes for this season and it is all because I like our pitching better. Tough series loss on the road in the ACC to a tough UVA team. Season is still very young. I really think we will be in a much better place come May than we were last season.

NC State has already clinched the 2019-20 ACC Championship, earning a clean sweep of both the regular season title as well as the conference championship tournament! There are still finals matches to be played out, including the current match in the 174 pound class between Daniel Bullard of NC State versus UNC's Lautt. However, with the Pack already enjoying a ten point advantage over second place Pitt, the margin isn't there for any team to overtake NC State for the title! Update: the final tally was 81 points for NC State. Pitt finished in second place with 77 points, which relegated #2 seed Virginia Tech to finish fifth. For the season, NC State won every single match of the regular season, and of course earned the regular season conference title. Tonight, they earned their second straight conference tournament title!

NC State lost their first game of the season in game one, and lost their first series of the year in game three, 10-3. In that rubber match, Virginia erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second to take all the momentum. Meanwhile, in the three game series, NC State left a small army of runners on the bases, yielding a constant stream of unproductive outs with men in scoring position. By contrast, Virginia scored nearly all of their runs with two outs until a two-run homer cleared the sacks, as well as most of NC State's hopes to take the series. Ken
