Just caught a blip on the Dave Glenn show on the way back from lunch that Tracy Smith has put his name on the early entry list.

Can't have any joy without a little sorrow around here, can we ?

Nothing to worry about. I posted on this a few weeks ago that he is entering his name into the draft soly to garner some attention for his Sr. season. He knows he will not be drafted, he just wants some feed back on what the NBA scouts think he needs to work on and to get his name out infront of the scouts.

Tracy - Hit the boards harder and develop your mid-range jumper.

Now take your name OUT of the pool !!!!

All he had to do was ask...

He actually has asked. This has been fully coordinated with the coaching staff and they are supporting his intentions. Smith has already said he will not hire an agent and will withdraw prior to the deadline.

It's a smart move, nothing to worry about. All he is doing is taking advantage of the NCAA's opportunity to test draft interest once in your college career without losing your eligibility. In fact, as the article said, Smith is not even guaranteed to attend any of the tryout camps. This is purely so he can legally solicit feedback from NBA scouts to earn pointers for how to improve his game. If he were to solicit those inputs without putting his name into the draft, then the NCAA could rule that to be illegal contact with professional scouts, and take away his senior year of eligibility.

With regard to the NCAA, you have to play precisely by their rules.

Cheers,

Ken

Well said Ken.

This also has another angle, it is a move to garner some attention for Smith. Smith has flown largly under the radar with regards to the NBA and wants to change that.
