Clemson took Auburn to the woodshed to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16.

Well, University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers had their coach turn back into a pumpkin, as Kansas State sent them back home!

Florida State mounted a furious comeback to win that game. They were down double digits to Xavier until the 8:45 mark in the second half, and the lead hovered at nine points until 5:31. And from that point, the Noles put it to the Musketeers.

Of all the ACC performances tonight, this one impresses me the most.

These ACC teams advance to the Sweet 16:

    Duke
    Syracuse
    Clemson
    FSU

    Not bad at all!

In fact, for those keeping score between conferences, the ACC obviously has four of their nine in the Sweet 16. The ACC had one more team than any other conference.

SEC: Kentucky, Texas A&M (two of eight teams)

Big-12: Kansas, West Virginia, Texas Tech, Kansas State (four of eight teams)

Big-10: Purdue, Michigan (two of eight)

    Metro Valley: Loyola - Chicago

Big East: Villanova (one of seven)

    WCC: Gonzaga

    Mountain West: Nevada-Reno

In terms of conferences with more than three starting off in the field of 68, the ACC has done well so far indeed, with only the Big-12 doing better in putting four of eight into the Sweet 16.

The game was surreal. UMBC was scoring at will on UVa. And UVA struggled to buy a bucket. It was like UMBC was on rocket skates and UVA was stuck in the mud. That's how much faster UMBC seemed to be playing than UVA. They got the rebounds, they got around the pack line defense to get lay ups, and they swarmed UVA on defense.

Just one of those crazy, crazy games that happens once in a lifetime.

Duke beat Syracuse to advance to the Elite Eight, but Kansas beat Clemson.

So, Duke and Syracuse in the Elite Eight.

    Cheers,

Tonight was the first time I got to see Villanova for any length of time, and while I only watched about ten percent of the game, it was enough to conclude that these guys were a class above any other team I saw play this year!
