Default 2018 NCAA Men's National Championships

It's only two days into four, and the meet continues through Saturday. However, it would be hard indeed to top the Wolfpack's team performance on Thursday. The Pack swimmers earned All-American honors in all five competitions scheduled for the day! Moreover, the 200 meter freestyle relay team set a new American record!

On day three, NC State's Coleman Stewart won the 100 meter backstroke, and Andreas Vazaois took third. That put the Pack back into fourth place in the overall standings, which the team held onto the rest of the day.

Day four features freestyle and backstroke events, which are strengths of the Wolfpack. This is shaping up to be a very interesting situation for NC State!

    Stay tuned!

Day four promised to be strong for NC State and it has been!

Andreas Vazaios won the individual national championship in the 200 meter butterfly. That earned another 20 points for the team standings.

In the 100 meter freestyle, Florida swimmer Caeleb Dressel set a new NCAA and American record and won the event, but NC State's Ryan Held finished second and the Pack's Justin Ress finished third to give the Wolfpack a very strong 33 team points in that event!

But, the day of success continued for the Pack! Anton Ipsen won the 1650 meter freestyle, to earn another 20 team points.

The 21st and final event is the 400 meter freestyle relay, which NC State is expected to be strong in. However, that meet result has net yet been posted. These are the standings posted after event 19 (200 meter butterfly):

    1. California -- 405.5
    2. Texas -- 396
    3. Indiana -- 380
    4. NC State -- 345

    Kaboom!

NC State wrapped up the 2018 NCAA Men's National Championships by setting a new NCAA and American record in the 400 meter freestyle relay! The team of Ryan Held, Justin Ress, Jacob Molacek, and Coleman Stewart posted a time of 2:44.75!

That posted another 40 points to NC State's team tally. The final standings put NC State as the fourth ranked team in the nation:

    1. Texas -- 449
    2. California -- 437.5
    3. Indiana -- 422
    4. NC State -- 385

For the Pack men, it was a clean sweep of the ACC and a fourth place finish in the NCAA's -- another elite national performance!
