    Default Virginia

The Pack lost game one of their three-game series hosting Virginia. NC State went down 4-0 after the top of the fifth inning, and then mounted an extended rally that came up one run short with the tying run at the plate and no one out.

Pack takes game two 3-0 as Reid Johnston hurled a complete game shut out, surrendering just six hits over nine complete innings!

Johnston turned in a masterpiece that featured seven strikeouts with only one walk. No Virginia runner advanced past second base.

The rubber game is Sunday afternoon.

A four run rally in the seventh secured an 8-7 win against Virginia, as well as another series victory, for #1 NC State!

The Hoos tallied four in the top half of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead, but it did not last. Jonny Butler ripped a leadoff triple and cruised home on an RBI double by Will Wilson. Wilson then plated on a two-out single by Evan Edwards. Tyler McDonough completed the comeback with a two-run shot over the right field wall that dented the scoreboard.

It was the eleventh come-from-behind victory for the Pack so far this season, and improves the record to 27-2 (10-2 ACC).

I like this team. We have the "bats" that put a lot of runs on the board last season with much better pitching and defense. We are 10-2 in the ACC which is great but 4-0 in ACC series and that is what matters. Keep winning the conference series and we have a clear road to Omaha!!!

Elliot Avent was asked what made this team different, and he said that while it doesn't have the superstar pitcher like Carlos Rodon, it has a starting rotation and bullpen that is strong top to bottom, plus a lineup of hitters who all play excellent defense. Baseball shall always be primarily pitching and defense and so long as this team continues to avoid beating itself, it has a real opportunity for special achievement. The ACC is once again a loaded conference, and so the path forward will include many keen contests.

"You have to understand, I grew up a NC State fan. Every State-Carolina basketball game, football game, I've been there. It's fun, and if you like to competing and I love competing... that will be extra special."
