    Default Syracuse (10/10)

The Pack has their bye week this weekend, and so that leads nicely into their Thursday night national broadcast on ESPN. It's a home game versus Syracuse, and for NC State, this is one of those games that needs to be won to maintain a pathway to bowl eligibility. Both teams enter the contest with equal 3-2 records and both teams earned their wins over teams that are well below average in the RPI.

Game on 10 Oct at 20:00 eastern, again broadcast nationally on ESPN.

    Go Pack!

Hockman listed as the starter for this game.

Does anyone know the status of Ricky Persons? Noticed not on the depth char for this game. I know he was injured against FSU but have not heard the severity.

I don't know what Leary did to piss off Doeren. He has the best arm out of our three QB's, and the most upside.

That's clear from the one series he played.

I can understand giving McKay a shot. Clemson did this last year, with their veteran QB, before starting Lawrence last year.

Leary should've been given a shot after the shit show in WVa

From what I have heard Leary's Dad may has pissed off Doeren and staff and has publicly stated that his son will not be with the Pack next season.

A father overtly interfering like that, yes, that will poison a situation every time. Might be a good time for Leary to decide what he wants his own future to look like. Sometimes, that requires a young man to remind his father who's life it is!

Anyway, Hockman did a very good job in this game. And it took a good job to win. Without his arm being a deep threat, I don't think we would have won this game. Syracuse has a really good defense and it showed tonight.

This was among the finest defensive efforts I have seen from an NC State football team ever. Syracuse has a high tempo offense that averaged 85 plays per game. And yet, the Pack's defense limited the Cuse to just 76.

Add in eight sacks and it meant all the difference in the game.

On offense, we mustered just enough to win. Hockman played well in my view because the passes he completed were mostly well defended and required him to put the ball on the money. The one interception was due to a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage. However, he was also lucky to avoid a pick in our own end zone that would have cost one of our field goals.

It is very nice to have a high quality kicking game again, as both our punter and our kicker had excellent games tonight.

Havent heard that. Now Dad Leary may have pissed off DD, but that is not the reason he is not playing. DD and staff will play who they think is the best QB (or player in any position) they fell gives them the best option to win.

Yes Leary has the best arm talent of the group. However Leary was the most careless of the 3 QB's with the ball during camp. At one point he was trowing like 3 pics a day against the scout team defense. But he would also make the throw that no other QB on the roster could make. However DD and staff put a premium on taking care of the ball.

Hockman pushed MM the most, but MM actually looked like the best QB in fall camp. He was hitting those open receivers and was pushing the ball down field and connecting on those passes. The staff was trying to be patient with MM in the games because the belief was that what they saw in practice would eventually translate into the game. It did not.
